Around Belle-Ile-en-Mer (Morbihan)

The GR340 is one of Brittany's most spectacular coastal paths, offering a rare diversity of landscapes, alternating between vertiginous schist cliffs and verdant valleys. The Côte Sauvage (Wild Coast), exposed to the Atlantic winds, shelters a unique low-lying flora and colonies of seabirds nesting in the crevices of the shoreline. In contrast, the more sheltered "inland" coast offers coves with turquoise waters and softer vegetation. Hikers will discover the imposing Vauban Citadel at Le Palais, a testament to the strategic ambitions against the English fleet, as well as the famous Needles of Port-Coton, immortalized by Claude Monet. The path passes through colorful harbors like Sauzon and crosses numerous repurposed coastal forts and batteries, such as the small fort at Pointe des Poulains, once belonging to Sarah Bernhardt.
