Loop around Upper Thore Valley (Tarn, Aude, Herault) |
The Haute Vallée du Thoré extends across the departments of Tarn, Aude, and Hérault, forming a western gateway to the Caroux-Espinouse massif. It is carved by the Thoré, a tributary of the Agout, and is characterized by mid-mountain landscapes and deep forests. Historically, this valley was a central hub for wool textile industry in Tarn (around Mazamet), harnessing the river's hydraulic energy. Although this industry has declined, the industrial heritage, including former mills and castles, is still visible. The territory is also rich in religious and medieval history. Today, the Haute Vallée du Thoré attracts hiking enthusiasts with its network of trails, including segments of the GR 77 and the GRP of Haut-Languedoc and Vignobles. It is integrated into the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park.
