This ancient path, once traversed by pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela, offers a fascinating blend of history, heritage, biodiversity, and varied landscapes. The Chemin de Saint Michel is deeply rooted in France's religious and medieval history. It is one of the many routes that have seen thousands of pilgrims over the centuries seeking to reach Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The path crosses regions rich in history, such as Berry and Velay, where numerous Romanesque churches and chapels testify to the spiritual significance of this route. Remnants such as stone crosses and calvaries line the way, reminding hikers of the devotion of past pilgrims.
