GR®654 The Way of Vézelay

From Gue-d'Hossus (Ardennes) to Saint-Palais (Pyrenees-Atlantiques)

Chemins de Grandes Randonnees

The GR®654 is one of the major routes of the Camino de Santiago, converging on the majestic Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine in Vézelay, a medieval spiritual beacon, before heading towards the Pyrenees. The heritage along the way is exceptionally rich: from the medieval fortresses of the Ardennes to the Romanesque churches of Berry and Limousin, each stage tells the story of the fervor of pilgrims of yesteryear. The route begins in the dense, rolling forests of the Ardennes, crosses the Champagne vineyards, then winds its way through the verdant hedged farmlands of the Nièvre and Creuse departments. Hikers then discover the gentle valleys of the Périgord and the agricultural expanses of Gascony. The trail favors the tranquility of rural paths and the biodiversity of regional nature parks.
