From Lafarre to Aurec-sur-Loire (Haute-Loire)

Between Lafarre and Aurec-sur-Loire, the river carves its way through deep granite gorges, providing a haven for biodiversity. The flora is diverse: the steep slopes are a mix of Scots pine forests and broom heaths, while the fauna thrives in this ecological corridor, sheltering the kingfisher, the red kite, and occasionally the European beaver. The built heritage bears witness to a rich medieval history, marked by sentinel castles such as Arlempdes, the first Loire castle perched atop its volcanic outcrop.
