GR®1 Tour of Ile de France |
|
The GR®1, nicknamed the Tour of Île-de-France, is a long-distance hiking trail that forms a loop of over 570 kilometers around the Paris metropolitan area. The landscape is remarkably diverse, alternating between vast national forests, such as those of Rambouillet and Fontainebleau, and the extensive agricultural plains of the Paris Basin. The history of this route is linked to the former defensive ring around the capital and connects numerous castles and medieval villages that formed the heart of the royal domain. The flora is very varied, ranging from oak and beech woodlands to heathland, and the fauna is richly represented, notably with the presence of deer and wild boar in the forested areas. The trail thus offers a complete immersion in the nature and heritage of the Île-de-France region, often unexpected so close to the metropolis.
