The Othe region is located on the Way of Saint James, a Christian pilgrimage that connects France to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain. In the Middle Ages, the Othe region was an important stopover for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Many villages in the region were built to accommodate pilgrims, including the villages of Saint-Mards-en-Othe, Noyers-sur-Serein and Tonnerre. In these villages, pilgrims could find accommodation, food and care. They could also go to churches and chapels to pray and reflect. The Othe region is also home to many monuments related to the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
